LEARN SHORTHAND
When the doctor hands you a prescription, it not necessary that you understand shorthand, arcane latiny squiggles and abbreviations. So just ask your doctor if you do not understand anything he writes. Doctor typically writes the name of the medicine he has prescribed, then the form (like capsule or tablet), dosage, amount you need to take and finally direction for taking that medicine.
Here is the medical shorhand that you will usually find in prescription.
ac ................ before meals.
alt die .......... alternate days.
bid ............... twice a day.
............... with.dol urg.......... when pain is severe.
hs ................. at bedtime.
prn ............... when needed.
sos ............... if neccessary.
stat .............. immediately.
tid ............... three times a day.
